I'm so pleased to share an update on the Cook State Government's plan to crack down on hoons and anti-social behaviour in the Hillarys Electorate.

Today I joined Premier Cook and Police Minister Papalia to announce the introduction of high-tech noise camera technology to detect and collect evidence of hoons on our roads.

This couldn’t have been achieved without over 1,000 residents who filled out my hoon surveys or reached out to me about this issue.

Your feedback assisted me to advocate for targeted action and I’m so proud to share we will be trialling new technologies right here in the Hillarys Electorate!

This pilot trial is the first of its kind in Western Australia.

The noise activated cameras will detect decibel level limits and scan license plates. This evidence will give WA Police the tools they need to impound dangerous vehicles and convict reckless hoons.

This is just one part of our plan to make our community safer. Other measures to increase community safety include:
  • Legislative reform to make it illegal to “post and boast” about hooning, violence, property damage or other forms of criminal activity.
  • A $22.5 million additional resourcing package for the latest technology to crack down on illegal activity.
  • Increased penalties for reckless speeding which will make it easier for WA Police to impound vehicles and keep our roads safe.
  • 64 new CCTV cameras installed in hotspots across WA, including within the Hillarys Electorate.

These measures will work to better support the 800 new police officers who joined the force in 2024 – this means we now have more police on our streets than any time in WA history.

I am confident these new measures will help make our community even safer.

Please reach out to my office if you have any intel to share on hoon locations within the Electorate.
